The need for the simple life

I recently visited my favourite local coffee shop.

Bakedd in Maidenhead.

I had taken the decision to work with a different view for the morning.

When I entered I noticed a number of other individual professionals sat around the room.

I perched myself by the window so I could enjoy the sunshine and the natural light.

Plus stand rather than sit.

It wasn’t long before I was joined by two professionals who had met for a ‘coffee’.

Simple

As they left we exchanged a quick conversation

“What brings you here?”

“A coffee with my friend”

The first said

“I’m in property”

The second said

“I’m retired” (he was probably younger than me)

“I want the simple life”

Looking around the room I’d hedge a bet that most people in the room are wanting the simple life. They had probably left the corporate life to try and be in more control of what they hoped to be a simple life.

They want the autonomy that comes with that. The simple life for them is great coffee, atmosphere, working to deliver rather than working to show up and choosing the people they spend time with.

Thinking about the conversations I have with my work. It is the simple things that people crave for or the ability to simplify what they do. Making things feel and appear easier.

Simple things in life is what we need and long for. Yet so many of us continue on the treadmill of life that they and those around them have created. Now is as a good a time as any to find what simple is for you and start to live it.

What is your simple life?
