Be clear about what L & D is there to provide and be guided by it for your decision making.
I was shocked by the resent research by Fosway that said:
“only 18% of L & D effort goes on developing performance” Fosway January 2018
If this is the case I was wondering what people in L & D were doing.
Simply, its always been clear to me that L & D is there to enhance:
- Performance
Performance comes in many forms and we all have different criteria as to what performance is required for success as individual professionals, teams and a whole community / organisation.
2. Productivity
The effectiveness as to how we complete a task, project, program or lifetime quest.
3. Prosperity (wellness)
When the body and mind are in great shape they work at their optimum to support #1 and #2.
These three areas provide the top level criteria to assess the work that you and your team(s) are doing, how managers and professionals are seeking opportunities for success and how leaders can communicate the successes that it brings.
How you apply these will be driven by the context you are in and your priorities.
In true Seth Godin Style I am keeping this short and simple to allow for self reflection.
Look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts and experiences from those within and also those who are managers and leaders / recipients of L & D.
